The Shapes to Come

January 6 - February 2, 2017

Mikhail Zakin Gallery presents "The Shapes to Come", an exhibition of works by three contemporary artists on view January 6 through February 2. An opening reception with the artists will be held on Thursday, January 19 from 6 - 8PM at the gallery located at 561 Piermont Road in Demarest, NJ at the Art School at Old Church.

Featuring a selection of contemporary paintings, drawings and mixed media works from each artist, this exhibition explores the relationship of creativity to intuition. DS LEE, Nancy Elsamanoudi and Patricia Malarcher incorporate improvisation into key stages of the creative process and preserve these mysterious elements of production in the final work.

The exhibition is curated by former exhibitions director, Mary Gagler, who states that "like the 1959 jazz album that influenced the show's title, this exhibition opens up the picture plane beyond two dimensions. The artists riff on their materials, paving the way for gut feelings to find visibility and create their own context." Each artist employs a different organizational technique for ordering color and form, resulting in an exploration of materials and expression that brings the gallery to life.
