Peace Among Savages a.k.a. The Gun Show

July 2 - 23, 2016

Amos Eno Gallery is pleased to present Peace Among Savages, a group exhibition of work about guns and gun violence on view July 2 – 23, 2016. A reception will be held on Friday, July 8 from 7-9 PM at the gallery’s new location at 56 Bogart Street in Brooklyn, NY. The gallery will be open late until 9 PM on Friday, July 15 as part of the building-wide "Bushwick Hot Summer Nights" art event.

Peace Among Savages a.k.a. The Gun Show is an exhibition curated from a national call for artists. Works vary in medium and in the facet of gun violence described. While the show could never be comprehensive, each of the thirty works on view uncovers hidden realities of guns; What are they? Who wields them? How are they empowered/empowering? With recent events casting a chilling shadow, the artists in this show explore the complexity of guns, wielded for varied and opposing causes, simultaneously for peace and war, oppression and freedom.

The exhibition features paintings, photography, weavings, sculptures and interactive video art by John Adkins, John H Clarke, Miguel Cortinas, Emma Covode, Brooks Dierdorff, Nancy Elsamanoudi, Jonathan Frey, Mary Gagler, Velvet G.Oldmine, Kathleen Greco, Craig Hill, Katherine Jackson, Matthew Keff, Jason Laning, Fia Matsson, Rosemary Meza-DesPlas, Rojava Solidarity NYC, Stass Shpanin, Abigail Smithson, Robin Snyder, Ryan Steed, Betsy Stout, Kento Saisho and Taehee Whang, Bubblegum Whiskey, Scot J. Wittman, Kristen Woodward and Raymond Yeager.

Amos Eno Gallery provides a full, active season of exhibits by emerging and mid-career visual artists, educational and public programs for its community.
